Ball
Park Concession Stand
One of the
fundraising projects that the James E. Shepard Sertoma Club has
been involved in is the operation of a concession stand at the
Durham Bulls Baseball Park. The Durham Bulls is a minor-league
baseball team residing in the city of Durham. (http://www.dbulls.com/)
This ball park is located in downtown Durham facing hwy. 147 and
the American Tobacco Complex. It is in the shadows of North Carolina
Mutual Life Ins. Co., the site of the club's monthly membership
meetings. The club is responsible for working approximately 21
home games per baseball season. The season usually begins sometime
in late March or early April and ends in late August of every
year.
Members from
the club assume the responsibility of selling beverages, sandwiches,
water, peanuts and french fries. The stand that we operate is
at the top of the left side steps as one enters the main entrance
to the ball park. Look for our team members wearing the Sertoma
caps.
This project
involves only the club members donating their time. Club members
begin working two hours before game time and usually finish all
tasks just as the game is ending. In addition to selling food
items, inventory has to be dealt with before the stand opens and
after the stand closes. Club members do not have any monetary
obligations with regard to this project.
The revenue
generated from this projects averages over $5,000.00 per baseball
season. This money becomes a part of the club's treasury and is
used for making donations to the club's various sponsorship endeavors.
