Raffles

The James E. Shepard Sertoma Club located in Durham, North Carolina is a 501(C)(3) tax exempt organization. All fundraising raffles are conducted in compliance with North Carolina General Statute section 14-309.15.

Over the past several years we have offered a fundraising raffle based on the National Football Leagues Monday night game scores. Our normal timing for sales and solicitation of books are from June 1st through August 31st of each year. The NFL Monday night games usually begin on the 1st week after Labor Day and last through the Super Bowl in late January or early February. We sell all booklets for $20.00 each with a different number affixed to each booklet. Inside the book there are 18 games listed with 18 chances to win. Since this fundraisers beginning, we have offered winning booklet owners an award of $50.00 per matching winning number. There is no limit placed on the number of times you can win each season. Your name and address are required on a ticket stub and home phone number is optional.

Here is how it works:
Our club currently prints up 800 booklets numbered from 1 to 800. There is one winning number per 100 series. So, if the winning number is 56, the holder of books 056, 156, 256, 356, 456, 556, 656, and 756 would be awarded $50.00 checks. You will NOT have to keep up with Monday night football in order to obtain this award. All names and numbers are entered into a spreadsheet before the season's first game and once the winning number is determined, we will MAIL all winners a $50.00 check to the home address provided on the ticket stub. Most are usually received before Friday evening the week of the game.

BEFORE the season begins we obtain the Monday night football schedule from the NFL for each week. We create a grid from 1 to 100, 10 across, 10 down. We list the visiting team for each game along the vertical axis to the left and list the home team along the horizontal axis at the top. We then RANDOMLY (through a number drawing from a hat) number each week's grid with the numbers 1 through 10 which is placed above each column and row. These numbers change from week to week and are shown on each column and row. Using the LAST DIGIT for each team of the FINAL score of the game, we find the Visitors ending number along the ROW it represents and then we find the Home teams ending number along the COLUMN it represents. We then follow that ROW across and COLUMN down until the two meet which will indicate that weeks WINNING number. Winning is totally random and lucky but lots of fun to keep up with from week to week. There is a WINNER for each 100 series as explained earlier.

Below are the game listings and winning numbers so far in our NFL fund-raising raffle for
2009. This will be updated once every two months during the season. The 2009 NFL Monday night season starts on September 14, 2009 on ESPN. Please be aware that week 1 has two (2) games and that there are 17 Monday night games in 2009. We want to stick with only Monday night games for our raffle. Please remember that all proceeds go towards our charitable sponsorship endeavors and are greatly appreciated.
